About The Position

The Category Manager — Fleet & Rentals leads strategic sourcing, supplier management, and program execution for fleet and rentals categories across Patterson-UTI Management Services and affiliated operating companies. This position manages all fleet vendor relationships for the organization — including the fleet management company (FMC), telematics, OEM/upfitter, fuel, and vehicle rental suppliers — and owns day-to-day fleet program execution across applicable entities. The role partners with operating company asset teams on enterprise-wide fleet strategy, vendor programs, and lifecycle standards. This position will report directly to the Director of Supply Chain MGT.

Requirements

  • Self-motivated with the ability to influence decisions and drive results across multiple business units without direct authority
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to present effectively to leadership and field operations stakeholders
  • Superior analytical skills: fleet program cost modeling, total cost of ownership analysis, savings tracking, and remarketing performance reporting
  • Ability to evaluate and negotiate fleet management, leasing, fuel, telematics, and vendor service contracts
  • Ability to manage cross-functional relationships across operations, finance, HR, legal, and field leadership
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook); experience with fleet management platforms and Coupa or comparable P2P systems preferred
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced, multi-entity environment
  • Demonstrated experience managing fleet management company (FMC) or lessor relationships, including leasing program administration, maintenance management, and remarketing
  • Working knowledge of vehicle lifecycle economics: lease vs. own analysis, total cost of ownership, depreciation, and resale dynamics

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Business, Finance, Information Systems, or a related field
  • 5+ years of progressive procurement, strategic sourcing, or category management experience with a concentration in software, SaaS, or IT categories
  • Must have and maintain a valid state-issued driver’s license and meet company vehicle eligibility requirements

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute category strategy for fleet and rentals spend, including lifecycle leasing, fleet management services, fuel, telematics, OEM vehicle procurement, upfitting, and vehicle/equipment rentals
  • Manage all fleet vendor relationships, including FMC, telematics, OEM, upfitters, fuel card providers, and rental vendors
  • Own day-to-day fleet program execution across applicable entities: vehicle ordering, in-service tracking, maintenance oversight, fuel program administration, and end-of-life remarketing
  • Partner with operating company asset teams to develop and maintain enterprise-wide fleet standards, FMC program alignment, vendor leverage, and lifecycle policy consistency
  • Execute the 3-year vehicle lifecycle model: order planning, factory/stock ordering, in-service tracking, and remarketing across operating companies; monitor remarketing proceeds against baseline
  • Oversee national account maintenance programs: maintenance authorization review, savings and MAP reporting, exception escalation, and vendor accountability
  • Administer fuel card programs, including spend controls, exception reporting, and discount/rebate performance tracking
  • Manage vehicle and equipment rental category: supplier rationalization, rate agreements, utilization reporting, and cost controls
  • Lead strategic sourcing events (RFPs/RFQs) for fleet and rentals categories from development through award and implementation
  • Produce monthly program reporting: fleet count, lifecycle status, vendor savings, remarketing proceeds, and KPI dashboards for leadership
  • Track and report negotiated savings, cost avoidance, and capital recovery against annual category targets; support CAPEX-avoidance modeling
  • Maintain supplier scorecards and conduct regular business reviews with key fleet and rental vendors
  • Support contract lifecycle in Coupa, including supplier enablement, contract repository accuracy, and renewal tracking in coordination with the contracts team
