The Category Manager, Indirect Spend is responsible for developing and executing sourcing and supplier management strategies across a broad portfolio of indirect categories, including engineering and automation projects, IT hardware, software licensing and service agreements, capital equipment, spare parts and maintenance contracts, engineering and shop materials, office supplies and services, facilities and contractor services, as well as non-BOM consumables. This role partners closely with Engineering, IT, Operations, Facilities, and Corporate Functions while the developing strategy, evaluating risk, negotiating agreements, updating stakeholders, identifying cost savings, and collaborating on process improvement for Kardium’s indirect spend. This is an exciting opportunity to support organizational growth and operational excellence through strategic sourcing, supplier partnerships, and cross-functional collaboration. Please note, this opportunity is a hybrid work arrangement, located in Burnaby, BC.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, supply chain management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in global strategic sourcing or category management.
  • Experience in a medical device or other highly controlled manufacturing environment required.
  • Experience managing indirect spend categories such as capital equipment, engineering services, IT hardware/software, facilities, maintenance, and professional services.
  • Demonstrated experience and achievement defining and implementing sourcing solutions.
  • You understand risk management and how to assess and quantify risk in a supply management context.
  • Demonstrated success negotiating complex supplier contracts and agreements, commercial terms, pricing agreements, service levels, and risk provisions with significant financial exposure.
  • Proven ability to identify and execute cost savings, cost avoidance, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Experience planning and leading change initiatives utilizing structured project management.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate spend data, develop business cases, and assess total cost of ownership.
  • Solid understanding of ERP system functionality.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across multiple functions and leadership levels.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Self-motivated, results-oriented professional with strong business acumen and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally, as required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end source-to-contract process for assigned indirect spend categories, ensuring competitive sourcing, supplier selection, and contract execution.
  • Develop and implement category strategies that support business growth, operational objectives, cost optimization, and supply continuity.
  • Negotiate supplier pricing, commercial terms, service levels, and contractual agreements to maximize value and minimize risk.
  • Identify and execute cost reduction, cost avoidance, and total cost of ownership (TCO) improvement opportunities across indirect categories.
  • Partner with Engineering, IT, Operations, Facilities, and Finance teams on budgeting, forecasting, project procurement, and spend management initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain a diverse, scalable, and high-performing supply base to support current and future business requirements.
  • Assess supplier and supply chain risks, maintain risk analyses, and implement mitigation strategies to address identified vulnerabilities.
  • Lead supplier relationship management activities, including performance reviews, issue resolution, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Act as the primary escalation point for supplier-related cost, delivery, quality, and contractual issues affecting business operations.
  • Support strategic sourcing and supplier selection activities for automation, facility expansion, and capital equipment projects.
  • Ensure procurement compliance, contract governance, and adherence to company policies, quality requirements, and risk management standards.
  • Drive procurement process improvements, spend visibility, reporting capabilities, and standardization initiatives to enhance efficiency and stakeholder experience.
