About The Position

At Casey’s, your expertise can make a real impact. Join us as a Category Manager II and help shape a product assortment that drives guest engagement, category growth, and profitability. In this role, you'll own the P&L for the assigned category (candy) through developing a differentiated offering driven by their product assortment recommendations, optimized product placement, and pricing/promotion activities that maximize guest traffic, revenue and profitability. Category size: G&GM sized at no greater than $500M in Revenue and $100M in Gross Profit annually.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing or related field or equivalent work experience is required.
  • Minimum of seven years of relevant experience, including at least three years of managing categories, is required.
  • Requires strong knowledge of the convenience store and/or food service industry, along with a solid understanding of marketing fundamentals, category management, merchandising practices, and consumer behavior.
  • Proven ability to manage a P&L, with the ability to analyze results, evaluate opportunities to course-correct and enact change.
  • Strategic and operational planning skills and independent decision-making skills, with the ability to provide guidance to stores and team members.
  • Must be able to communicate professionally and effectively with business partners, field operations, store support center team members - both verbally and with excellent business writing skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Work is primarily performed in an office setting, but you must be able to travel when necessary to ensure progress of overall category merchandising strategy (approximately 25% of the time) within the states Casey’s operates.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have the physical ability to drive a vehicle for job related travel.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute strategy for assigned categories based on competitive and consumer trends and market needs.
  • Develop annual category plans and category financial projections and execute to meet goals.
  • Owns and manages critical relationships with suppliers of strategic importance to category plans.
  • Negotiates supplier contracts, obtains appropriate Legal review and approval.
  • Provides product assortment and pricing recommendations based on triangulation of information to include key guest insights, the competitive landscape, external syndicated data sources, internal data analysis, vendor data / insights for assigned categories.
  • Spends time in our stores as well as shopping competitive options to better define and understand strengths as well as opportunities, routinely riding stores with our Field Operations Teams as well as with our Supplier Partners.
  • Owns and optimizes cost of goods, terms, support funds, and other periodic issues through leveraging of Casey’s existing and future scale.
  • Develop monthly promotional sales plan for assigned categories.
  • Effectively partners with other teams that play a key part in driving and executing on strategy.
