About The Position

As a Category Director/General Manager, you’ll be responsible for the development of the product category strategies that deliver customer experience and financial goals of the business with an omnichannel mindset. You will lead a team to guide and support the priorities working alongside category leaders to adjust individual strategies and create a larger strategy focused on customer experience. You’ll be a key conduit for the vendors covering all areas of category management, including e-commerce, demand planning, fulfilment, and merchandising responsibilities. This role is hybrid, which means you will work some days on-site at a Best Buy location and some days virtually from home or another non–Best Buy location. Work arrangements vary by team; your recruiter or hiring leader will share more during the hiring process. For this role, you must be located within a drivable distance to our office in Richfield, Minnesota. Requirements

  • 5 years of experience in merchandising, buying, demand planning, e-commerce, financial planning, or marketing
  • 3 years of managing cross-functional teams
  • 2 years of people management experience
  • 2 years experience developing an end-to-end strategic vision

  • 6 years of people leadership experience
  • 2 years of complex vendor management contract negotiation
  • Proficient financial forecasting and planning experience

Responsibilities

  • Set strategic vision and guide category strategy to deliver strong customer experiences and financial outcomes in support of the larger company strategy, while competing in an evolving omnichannel marketplace environment.
  • Lead assortment and promotional strategies for all aspects of merchandising, demand planning, and ecommerce within the portfolio, including managing P&L and inventory health within assigned Category.
  • Effectively represent and communicate the category strategy and approach to category peers, key strategic 1p vendors, and cross-functional partners helping ensure all stakeholders understand the role of category within the enterprise priorities.
  • Partner with Best Buy Marketplace team to incorporate a holistic category approach that is competitive in the broader marketplace.
  • Drive strategic alignment and long-term value through vendor relationships, program negotiations, and industry influence.
  • Leverage data, trends, and market insights to drive decisions, optimize operations, and anticipate demand shifts.
  • Collaborate with CX and analytics teams to understand customer needs and use data to shape category strategy with a digital-first mindset.
  • Focus on building a high-performing team through trust, vulnerability, grace, empathy and intentional development.
  • Prioritize coaching and growth plans to strengthen future talent, while managing workload and resources effectively.
  • Demonstrate peer-to-peer leadership by sharing knowledge and influencing outcomes across teams without authority.
