The Catalog & Metadata Librarian is responsible for the creation, maintenance, and quality control of bibliographic records and metadata for New York Tech Libraries’ print, electronic, and digital resources. The position ensures that library resources are accurately described, organized, discoverable, and accessible through the library’s integrated library system, discovery services, and other resource platforms. The Catalog Librarian works collaboratively with public services, acquisitions, electronic resources, and other library staff to support effective resource discovery and access. The position also contributes to the development and implementation of cataloging and metadata standards, policies, workflows, and procedures and stays current with emerging practices and technologies in library metadata and resource description.

Requirements

Master’s degree in Library Information Science from an ALA accredited institution.
1-3 years of relevant academic library experience.
Knowledge of current cataloging and metadata standards and practices.
Demonstrated knowledge of MARC21, RDA, Library of Congress Classification, and Library of Congress Subject Headings.
Experience with an integrated library system and library discovery platform.
Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy while managing multiple priorities.
Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with colleagues across the library.

Nice To Haves

Preferred experience with OCLC and WorldCat.

Responsibilities

Provide original and copy catalog services for monographs, serials, electronic resources, theses, tech items, video and other library materials using current national and international cataloging standards.
Create accurate, standards-based bibliographic records that improve the discovery, identification, organization, and accessibility of information resources.
Apply appropriate classification, subject headings, descriptive metadata, and access points to support resource discovery.
Conduct ongoing database maintenance, including identifying and correcting duplicate, incomplete, inaccurate, or inconsistent bibliographic records.
Manage and maintain catalog records for electronic resources and other online materials, ensuring accurate links and access information.
Work with acquisitions and electronic resources staff to ensure that newly acquired materials are accurately represented and discoverable in the library catalog and discovery system.
Troubleshoot cataloging and metadata-related problems and respond to questions from library staff regarding bibliographic records and resource discovery.
Provide support for the institutional repository.
Participate in university and library committees, professional development activities, and institutional initiatives as assigned.
Perform other duties related to library technical services and resource discovery as assigned.
