About The Position

We are seeking an experienced reinsurance claims examiner to manage a portfolio of casualty claims in our New York City office. This position is a great opportunity for experienced claims examiner to assume responsibility for a growing book of business.

Requirements

5+ years of (re)insurance casualty claims handling experience, treaty and facultative
JD degree is strongly preferred
Litigation experience is a plus
Strong analytical and writing skills
Ability to work well independently and within a team

Responsibilities

Evaluating and making independent coverage determinations on complex casualty reinsurance claims, including general liability, automobile, workers’ compensation, excess and umbrella liability, products liability, construction defect, environmental, and other long-tail casualty claims
Analyzing underlying insurance policies, claim files, coverage opinions, expert reports, and legal billings to assess coverage triggers, limits application, exclusions, allocation issues, and strategy alignment
Establishing and maintaining accurate loss and expense reserves
Ensuring timely and accurate claim payments
Conducting detailed claim audits of cedent files and preparing comprehensive audit reports with findings, recommendations, and risk assessments
Assessing extra-contractual obligations (ECO) and excess of policy limits (XPL) exposures and providing recommendations
Interfacing effectively with underwriters, brokers, cedents, external counsel, actuaries, and senior claims management
Providing coverage and exposure feedback to underwriting to support risk selection and portfolio management, including identifying trends and emerging claim issues impacting casualty portfolios
Preparing clear, concise claim summaries and presenting material exposures to management
Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, contractual obligations, and internal audit standards, and maintaining documentation and claim file integrity in accordance with company policies and best practices
