About The Position

West Liberty University is seeking applications for a Casual Nurse in our Student Health Department. This position functions as the first of two levels of Student Health Nurse. The Student Health Nurse I is responsible for providing professional nursing services to students and staff, in compliance with professional standards of practice. This position tasks/duties by selecting correct processes from clearly prescribed rules and specific instructions. Job responsibilities contribute to the accuracy, reliability, and acceptability of processes, services, or functions of the unit. Work is closely supervised, with limited opportunity for independent action or decision making, and consists of tasks that are routine, or well-defined, with specific instructions to achieve standards. Decisions are limited to the application of standardized or accepted practices and errors could result in moderate costs, inconveniences, and disruption of services within the affected area.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing
  • Current Licensures as a Registered Nurse in West Virginia
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Successfully passing a background screening report is required for final employment.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies and treats health disorders and provides instruction in maintenance of good health and disease prevention.
  • Performs diagnostic tests within the scope of practice.
  • Ensures compliance with City, State and Federal laws and regulations campus and institutional policies, and protocols.
  • Determines if students have necessary required medical examinations, certifications and vaccinations, as required by law, for their program of study and any other school-related activity.
  • Documents and maintains accurate, confidential student and staff medical records and statistics.
  • Completes documentation related to health status and services (such as immunization records) as required.
  • Provides initial emergency care and first aid and/or referral as appropriate.
  • Responds to on-campus emergencies as per campus policy.
  • Serves as health educator and advocate for students, staff and the community.
  • Tracks and maintains an adequate inventory of medical, pharmaceutical and office supplies.
  • Stocks supplies and verifies expiration dates.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.
