About The Position

Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University of Hawai’i may apply for Casual Hire positions, which include administrative professional and technical (APT) or Instructional-type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular BOR and Civil Service employees such as paid leave and holidays. Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees and up to one calendar year for part-time employees.

Requirements

  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in communication, marketing, psychology, public health, health promotion, education, or related field and 0 years of progressively responsible professional experience in marketing, health promotions, and communications; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
  • Functional knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques in the area of health promotion and/or communications, demonstrated by knowledge, understanding, and ability to apply mental health and wellness concepts and terminology.
  • Functional knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, federal and state laws, rules, regulations and systems associated with health promotion and/or communications.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve the full range of problems that may commonly occur in the area of project communications.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately verbally, and in print or electronic format.

Nice To Haves

  • At least 3 years of progressively responsible professional experience in marketing, health promotions, and/or communications.
  • Familiarity with wellness, mental health, and/or student support services in a college setting.
  • Experience researching, creating, and producing outreach and/or promotional materials.
  • Functional knowledge of desktop publishing software programs such as Canva and Adobe.
  • Understanding of effective use of social media and content creation that keeps up with the latest trends.
  • Understanding of inclusive and accessible communication practices.
  • Familiarity with UH policies and procedures, including FERPA.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the mental health team’s efforts in promoting campus wellness through electronic and print materials as assigned, including but not limited to copy for web pages, social media, and marketing collateral.
  • Assist in the development of educational print collateral and outreach material for the campus community on topics including but not limited to: mental health and wellness, sexual violence, suicide prevention, basic needs, and health literacy.
  • Support educational and communication efforts for mental health, student health center, and basic needs offices, including disseminating information from these resources through campus outreach activities (tabling, wellness fairs, etc.) and various media forms.
  • Collaborate with designated faculty and staff to translate clinical health and mental health information into clear, student-friendly messaging.
  • Coordinate with the Marketing Department for review, approval, and production of materials when required (print collateral, branded giveaway items, etc.), website updates, social media posts, and messaging distribution.
  • Provide logistical or administrative support for outreach campaigns and events related to mental health, physical health, basic needs, and overall student wellness.
  • Track and organize communication materials and requests across campus stakeholders.
  • Collaborate closely with the Marketing program staff to ensure alignment with institutional communication standards.
  • Completes assigned projects from concept to delivery on time and within budget.
  • Assignments may include day, evening, and/or weekend and will require traveling to Leeward CC’s Waianae Moku campus and other UH campuses and sites.
  • Other duties as assigned.
