About The Position

This position will team up with engineering and manufacturing to ensure that the investment casting foundry processes are performed in compliance with methods, materials, and equipment specifications for Industrial Gas Turbine (IGT) and Structural castings. The primary responsibility is process ownership of mold preheat and casting processes. This may include casting processes for Equiax, Directionally Solidified, Single Crystal and/or Fine Grain processes. The role involves working in conjunction with Manufacturing & Engineering to support the overall plant’s objectives, authoring and approving work instructions, and driving standardized procedures using the scientific method and six sigma tools to reduce scrap and rework. The Process Owner will participate as an active member of scrap reduction teams, develop processes and manufacturing best practices utilizing the Howmet Corporate Casting Manual, and conduct monthly Howmet Casting MSAT audits. Additionally, the role provides specialist advice, leads projects, trains employees, develops a working knowledge of equipment, assists with diagnosing equipment issues, determines root cause of deviations from critical process specifications, develops reaction plans, and writes capital requests for new equipment and system upgrades.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required (Material Science or Metallurgy preferred, or other closely related degrees with experience).
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must be able to provide documentation in original form establishing both identity and employment eligibility in the U.S.
  • Must be able to lawfully attain access to export-controlled items.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with shop floor and management personnel.
  • Ability to organize, manage time, and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work in a self-directed or team environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Must be able to apply engineering concepts to daily observations.
  • Must be able to apply principles of standard work.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of SQL and/or Minitab preferred.
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma and/or Lean Manufacturing preferred.
  • Familiarity or working knowledge with 3D modeling and/or process modeling preferred, such as SolidWorks, NX, ProCAST.
  • 3+ years of experience in manufacturing operations and/or continuous improvement.
  • 3+ years of knowledge of metallurgy, vacuum practices and/or pyrometry systems.
  • 3+ years of leadership experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Training hourly and/or salaried employees in a meeting room setting and/or on the shop floor.
  • Develop working knowledge of equipment and assist with diagnosing equipment issues.
  • Determine root cause of any deviation from critical process specification(s), and develop a timely and formal reaction plan.
  • Write capital requests for new equipment and system upgrades.
