Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Operate and monitor continuous casting equipment and auxiliary production equipment.
  • Ability to interpret operating information and recognize conditions requiring adjustment or action.
  • Inspect cast aluminum strip using visual and measurement techniques.
  • Accurately record production and operating information.
  • Work effectively with an assigned production crew.
  • Action Oriented – Takes timely action to maintain production performance, address operating conditions, and support equipment readiness.

Responsibilities

  • Operates continuous casters, furnaces, and auxiliary equipment to produce continuous cast coiled aluminum strip that meets established quality and production requirements.
  • Controls casting conditions, monitors metal and equipment parameters, verifies material characteristics, and responds to operating conditions to support safe, consistent production.
  • Works with assigned crew during equipment changes and supports material handling, equipment maintenance, production documentation, and housekeeping.
  • Exercises independent judgment within established operating requirements and contributes directly to production quality, equipment reliability, and operational performance.
  • Directs and assists in setting up casters, trough and tips in preparation for casting.
  • Verifies temperature and alloy of metal in furnaces.
  • Take samples as required.
  • During operation, monitors grain refiner and degassing filter operation, controls temperature of metal and cooling water, metal and water level and release agent solution.
  • Operates coil sheer and rewind.
  • Checks quality of sheet visually and with measuring tools.
  • Direct and work with assigned crew in changing caster rolls.
  • Assists with changing of spray heads on casters.
  • Bands as-cast coils.
  • Occasionally moves as-cast coils as needed.
  • Uses material handling equipment such as floor-controlled cranes and coil carts, as necessary, in conjunction with assigned duties.
  • Cuts gasket material as necessary.
  • Checks, records and fills hydraulic levels at casters.
  • Checks and fills oilers at caster, mandrel, main hydraulic set and sprayers.
  • Maintains equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Keeps required production records.
  • Enters operating data into computer and utilizes display screen information to perform operation.
