About The Position

The Cashier is responsible for accurately recording customer purchases, processing payments, and providing friendly and efficient customer service at the checkout. This role supports store operations by ensuring transactions are completed accurately while maintaining a positive customer experience. The Cashier reports to the Assistant Manager or designated supervisor and is responsible for operating the register system, handling various forms of payment, assisting customers, and supporting front-end store operations.

Requirements

  • Ability to accurately handle cash and electronic payment transactions.
  • Ability to provide friendly and professional customer service.
  • Basic math skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to operate POS equipment and scanning systems.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Background check required for pharmacy employees.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately record sales using the point-of-sale (POS) system by scanning or entering products and verifying pricing.
  • Accept payments including cash, checks, coupons, gift certificates, electronic benefits, credit cards, and debit cards.
  • Accurately calculate and return change while maintaining a professional and courteous customer interaction.
  • Handle voids, over-rings, refunds, and merchandise returns according to company procedures.
  • Provide friendly, professional, and helpful service to customers at the checkout.
  • Assist customers with unloading carts and bagging groceries when necessary.
  • Respond to customer questions and assist customers in locating products when possible.
  • Inform customers of ad items, promos, loyalty programs
  • Issue rain checks as requested by customers
  • Maintain control and accountability of assigned cash drawer.
  • Follow company procedures for cash handling and balancing transactions.
  • Maintain awareness of store security procedures and shoplifting prevention practices.
  • Follow company procedures in the event of suspicious activity or attempted robbery.
  • Maintain adequate supplies such as bags and register materials at checkout lanes.
  • Assist with cleaning duties near checkout areas including windows, fixtures, and service counters.
  • Stock and face merchandise near the checkout area during slower customer periods.
  • Maintain knowledge of current PLU codes and produce recognition for accurate scanning.
  • Understand store procedures for special forms of payment such as WIC, SNAP, and other government programs.
  • Follow all state laws regarding the sale of alcohol and tobacco products, including proper identification verification procedures.
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and operational guidelines outlined in the Lynn’s Inc. & Affiliates Primary Policy Manual.
  • Comply with all applicable safety and security regulations established by the company and local, state, and federal agencies.
  • Maintain confidentiality of company operational information and business matters.
  • Maintain professional communication with customers, employees, and store leadership.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by store leadership.
