About The Position
The Bargain Barn Cashier is responsible for ensuring the efficient and cost-effective operation and stewardship of the Bargain Barn. This role involves maintaining security of corporate assets, managing customer relations, processing sales of donated goods accurately, and maximizing profitability. The cashier will operate the Point of Sale (POS) system, provide excellent customer service, maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of the work area, and assist with stocking and rotating merchandise. This position also supports promotions and ensures that saleable merchandise is processed and displayed in a timely manner. The role requires adherence to Goodwill's Core Values and Guiding Principles, including a commitment to safety, a positive work environment, and zero tolerance for harassment or theft.
Requirements
- Ability to work in non-climate-controlled environments.
- Ability to see details at close range and adequate distance.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with team leadership, team members, customers, and clients.
- Ability to maintain a positive, friendly attitude and a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance.
- Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
- Skill of operation monitoring, watching indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
- Ability to work under general supervision.
- 6 months of previous cashiering experience.
- Must be able to work evenings and weekends.

- Prior experience in a retail environment preferred.
Responsibilities
- Ensure efficient and cost-effective operation and stewardship of the Bargain Barn.
- Maintain security of corporate assets.
- Manage customer relations and provide world-class customer service.
- Operate the cash register for accurate sales data processing.
- Greet customers both in person and via phone in a prompt, friendly, and courteous manner.
- Bag/wrap merchandise and display merchandise.
- Clean cash wrap area, counters, and the front of the store.
- Hang, stock shelves, and rotate merchandise.
- Assist with promotions, including customer information, postings, and special sign displays.
- Ensure all items are processed accurately and saleable merchandise reaches the sales floor promptly.
- Assist in the stocking and maintenance of the sales floor.
- Assist in the rotation of merchandise on the sales floor.
- Assist with quality and safety control assurance.
- Use safe work procedures and personal protective equipment as required.
- Report equipment defects, incidents, injuries, or damage in a timely manner.
- Move material movement equipment safely.
- Adhere to all GGC and personnel policies and procedures.
- Maintain GGC security relating to theft, pilferage, and cash receipt handling.
- Establish and maintain a cooperative, functional work relationship with team leader and all team members.
- May be asked to assist in training new cashiers.
- Attend in-service and related training as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
