About The Position
The Cashier/Sales Associate serves customers and helps keep the store clean, safe, stocked, and operating smoothly. The role includes operating the register, selling lottery tickets and age-restricted products in compliance with legal requirements, providing friendly service, and maintaining merchandise displays. Associates also perform thorough cleaning indoors and outdoors, including restrooms, gas pumps, store floors, windows, entryways, and the parking lot. They may cross-train in other departments, including the deli, and are expected to follow safety procedures, company policies, and help the team wherever needed. The position requires working weekends and holidays, being on one’s feet for most of a shift, and working indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. Candidates must be at least 21, pass pre-employment screening, and be able to perform the listed lifting duties. Prior retail or customer service experience is appreciated but not required.
Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must be available to work weekends and holidays.
- Must be prepared to work on one’s feet for most of the shift and work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English effectively.
- Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication.
- Ability to frequently lift 10 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and be subject to a criminal history background check.
- Friendly, positive demeanor and ability to make customers feel welcome.
- Attention to detail, reliability, punctuality, trustworthiness, and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
Nice To Haves
- Previous retail or customer service experience is appreciated but not required.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers and operate the register accurately and efficiently.
- Sell lottery, cigarette, and alcohol products while following age-verification and legal requirements.
- Provide friendly customer service and upsell when appropriate.
- Clean and maintain high-use restrooms, gas pumps, store interiors, and outdoor areas.
- Pick up litter and trash and take trash to the dumpster in all kinds of weather.
- Stock shelves, coolers, and displays.
- Sweep, mop, clean windows, and maintain store entryways.
- Cross-train in other departments, including the deli, as needed.
- Follow safety procedures and company policies.
- Support teammates and help wherever needed.
