About The Position

The cashier/lumber yard associate is responsible for providing excellent customer service to our customers both inside the store as a cashier and outside in the lumber yard. This is a part-time position, scheduled 20-25 hours/week. Must be able to work days, evenings and Saturdays until 3pm.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Must be 18 to drive the forklift.

Nice To Haves

• 1-2 years of customer service experience preferred.
• 1-2 years of retail experience is preferred.
• Forklift experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Treat all team members, vendors, and customers with courtesy and respect.
• Greet and assist customers in a positive, approachable manner. Answer questions and resolve customer concerns. Advise customers on solutions to projects and problems. Offer solutions with add on sales when appropriate.
• Ask open-ended questions to ensure that customers receive proper assistance from department heads. Follow up.
• Communicate customer needs via intercom and two-way radios. Use two-way radios to communicate to yard team when customers are coming out. Provide proper loading paperwork to customers.
• Provide a fast and effective check-out transaction. Process customer orders, invoices, and returns according to established store policies and procedures.
• Perform any necessary customer service tasks including but not limited to; cutting keys, filling propane, assisting with rental transactions, etc.
• Perform necessary tasks including but not limited to; answering the telephone, stocking and recovering inventory around register area, clean and organize front outdoor area, keep promotional signage up to date, etc.
• Perform a variety of duties, such as but not limited to; assisting customer by loading and unloading lumber and building materials, building loads as needed, operating trucks and equipment, delivering materials to home and job sites.
• Manually carry building materials onto job site. Building materials including drywall are often heavy and awkward and require precise placement in the job site while avoiding damaging materials or the surroundings.
• Assist in inventory management by ensuring customers are loaded properly, checking in freight, routine cycle counts, etc.
• Maintain store grounds, assist customers, straighten and clean the yard, cycle counts, equipment maintenance, etc.
• Assist with cycle counts, price updates and other inventory maintenance as needed.
• Store maintenance as needed including but not limited to; cleaning common areas, trash removal, parking lot and sidewalk sweeping, and snow removal.
• Provide timely and accurate information to incoming customer order status and product knowledge requests.
• Provide timely feedback to the company regarding service failures or customer concerns.
• Open and close store as assigned.
• Make taking care of customers a priority while working your area.
• Ensure a safe working environment. Maintain situational awareness. Identify and report any safety issues or concerns to management.
• Help out in other departments as necessary.
• Follow all company policies and procedures.
• Other duties as assigned.
