Caseworker - Torrington
About The Position
The Center for Human Development (CHD) is seeking an Outreach Caseworker to join our growing Planning and Implementing Housing Options for Long-term Success (PILOTS) team in Torrington, CT. Through this program, the Outreach Caseworker will use a counseling approach that uses both motivational interviewing and harm-reduction. As a PILOTS Support Specialist, you will assist program participants to live independently in the community by addressing their mental and physical health, substance use, employment and housing needs. The Outreach Caseworker should actively support the philosophy of the agency and maintain a high level of commitment to program participants and staff.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required
- Experience working with psychiatric disorders or co-occurring population preferred
- Must be comfortable engaging clients in the community for majority of the position
- Field visits within the surrounding communities to see clients
- Registered & insured vehicle and approved driving record check
- Approved criminal background check
Responsibilities
- Securing housing, move-in, relocations, interventions in eviction processes, rent arrears and housing stability.
- Assist participants with budgeting/banking
- Help participants with obtaining and maintaining entitlements.
- Provide crisis intervention
- Provide vocations assistance; resume writing, interview preparations, and job search assistance.
