Caseworker II's are fully trained and exercise independent judgment and discretion while working under the supervision of a licensed professional in either assessing human service needs for children, youth, elderly adults, developmentally and/or intellectually disabled individuals, or providing substance abuse counseling to clients in a correctional facility or state institution. Employee recommends appropriate care or intervention, documents client/inmate progress, compiles case histories and prepares other related reports. Develops treatment plans and documents progress. May perform field investigations and determine actions or decisions governing a client's situation. May investigate abuse, exploitation and/or neglect referrals and recommend appropriate actions affecting the client's well-being and social functioning. May coordinate provider services and ensure the quality of services for clients. May perform 24-hour on-call services under supervisor's direction. May require licensure as a Social Service Worker. Generally, at the Department of Corrections the best qualified individuals for this job will have obtained certification as a Certified Substance Use Disorder Counselor. Some employees within this title may work in a correctional environment with an inmate population.
