About The Position

The Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) protects the public by preparing court-involved youth to be successful citizens. DJJ is committed to excellence in public safety by providing effective interventions that improve the lives of youth, strengthening both families and communities within the Commonwealth. The Bon Air Juvenile Justice Correctional Center is seeking Casework Supervisor. This position is to provide direct supervision for the BAJCC Rehabilitation Counselors and assistance to the Assistant Superintendents, and Superintendent in ensuring appropriate oversight, consistency, and fidelity to the case management processes and casework practices. Casework functions are an essential element in the rehabilitative process of youth in direct care. This position will also ensure casework operations align with best practice, DJJ re-entry, casework procedures, and processes.

Requirements

  • Extensive working knowledge essential operations within a secure environment to include safety and security procedures, and functions of case management principles, techniques, and practices.
  • Considerable knowledge of juvenile rehabilitation, evidence-based, trauma-informed programming, and human resources procedures, policies, and practices.
  • Considerable knowledge of assessing, evaluating, development and service planning for at risk youth.
  • Extensive working knowledge of how to effectively plan for, assess, identify, and link youth to the appropriate re-entry services.
  • Knowledge of auditing case management services and processes to determine compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, oversee and follow up to ensure the work of assigned rehabilitative counselors.

Responsibilities

  • Develop procedures, implement procedural changes, and evaluate compliance.
  • Assessing staff training needs, provide case management training, identify relevant training, and assist staff in finding or assigning appropriate, beneficial, available training.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to effectively direct the tasks of casework staff, and to develop effective working relationships with all levels of management and the public.
  • Provide guidance and oversight of the treatment team process to ensure collaboration and effective re-entry planning.
  • Ensure oversight of case management services, documentation, and procedural and certification processes
  • Administrative and human resource management duties
  • Oversee and monitor case management service delivery to ensure quality and best practice
  • Supervise, coach, and ensure appropriate training for casework staff in case management functions and best practices for juvenile rehabilitative services
