About The Position

Boyle Street is launching the wâwâhtêwa Arts and Culture Hub, a welcoming and inclusive public space open to all people. The wâwâhtêwa Hub will offer a range of services centered on access to intentional arts and cultural programming, while also providing a safe place for coffee, companionship, basic needs, and supported connection to resources for neighbours experiencing vulnerability. Rooted in strong community engagement and positive relationship-building, the wâwâhtêwa Hub will serve as a vital starting point for individuals to connect with resources, express themselves creatively, and build meaningful pathways toward well-being. The Case Manager will play a vital role on the multidisciplinary wâwâhtêwa Hub team, supporting individuals through consistent, trauma-informed, and culturally safe one-on-one case management. You will build relationships with community members and provide individualized support in accessing mental health resources, housing, addiction services, cultural connection, income assistance, and healthcare. You will work closely with Support Workers, internal partners, and community partners to ensure community members are supported in their unique journeys toward stability, healing, and self-determination. The wâwâhtêwa Arts and Culture Hub is designed as a healing and supportive space for individuals experiencing homelessness and/or isolation, where they can find community, healing, and self-expression through creative engagement. The purpose of this program is not only to provide basic needs like food, clothing, and hygiene products but also to foster a sense of belonging, dignity, and connection. Through arts and cultural programming, individuals will be empowered to express themselves creatively, build skills, and develop meaningful relationships within a safe, inclusive environment. The Hub will serve as a community hub for both personal growth and collective healing, with an emphasis on creating opportunities for reconciliation, healing, and positive social transformation. The Case Manager will be essential in co-creating trusting relationships with community members, identifying needs and strengths, and supporting their connection to internal and external services that promote resilience, independence, and healing.

Requirements

  • Degree, diploma, or equivalent. Candidates without a degree but who have post-secondary education and relevant and related experience will also be considered.
  • Understand the challenges and stresses facing people who live in poverty.
  • Strong ability to build trusting, collaborative relationships with community members and colleagues through active listening, mutual respect, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Able to think critically and creatively when navigating complex situations, de-escalating conflict, and supporting individuals through crises and systemic barriers.
  • Able to handle multiple demands at the same time; exceptional organization skills.
  • Ability to recognize and manage your own emotional responses, practicing self-care techniques and maintaining resilience in a challenging and emotionally demanding environment.
  • Minimum 1-3 years of experience in Case Management, ideally in a non-profit or social services setting.
  • Background in community development, social work, occupational therapy or another related field.
  • Experience working with Indigenous people and individuals from diverse cultures.
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations, including individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, or substance use.
  • Must have a personal vehicle, valid class 5 drivers license and ability to provide a clean drivers abstract, and 2mil liability insurance.
  • Valid First Aid certificate or enrolled in a future course
  • Police Check with the Vulnerable Sector completed within the past six months and kept up to date (every 3 years)
  • Child and Youth Intervention Check completed within the past six months and kept up to date (every 3 years)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with and knowledge of Indigenous culture and ceremonies is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Develop relationships with community members, identifying strengths and working in a respectful way with a community that has faced trauma and social exclusion.
  • Offer access to information, support and connections to services within Boyle Street and external agencies.
  • Contribute to a safe, welcoming, and clean environment for all participants by supporting general upkeep and housekeeping duties.
  • Maintain a relationship with all partners of Boyle Street (Interfaith Communities, Edmonton Police Services, EMS, etc.).
  • Maintain accurate case notes, documentation, and reporting.
  • Facilitate case management within the wâwâhtêwa Hub for individuals who need support connecting to resources such as (but not limited to) income support, ID, housing, medical, justice, income etc.
  • Assist community members in crisis and find positive resolutions.
  • Provide 1:1 transportation for community members to appointments.
  • Attend and provide support and advocacy for community members during appointments.
  • Greet community members and lead the effort to develop a warm, friendly, and inviting environment through community engagement, identifying and addressing their immediate needs, and supporting them through referrals.
  • All other duties as outlined by program manager.
  • All staff at BSCS are expected to participate in occasional outreach and emergency response efforts (e.g., winter response) to support and engage with clients.
  • BSCS is more than a workplace. It is a community where everyone helps and contributes to the whole, and there is an expectation that all employees will take part in events (during the work week and occasionally during weekends and evenings). This includes fundraising campaigns, running community meals, medicine picking etc.
