About The Position

In accordance with RNP's Mission Statement, Philosophy of Client Care and Code of Ethics as stated in the Personnel Policies and under the supervision of the Coordinator, this role counsels individuals and/or groups regarding substance abuse problems and co-occurring disorders, and develops and implements a therapeutic treatment plan. The position requires crisis intervention, providing information and education on substance abuse and mental health disorders, referring clients to supportive services, and preparing and maintaining records on an assigned caseload. The role also involves assuming other appropriate duties as deemed necessary by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Associates or higher degree in the behavioral sciences or two (2) years’ experience in counseling preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to gather, analyze and evaluate information pertinent to the care of clients.
  • Knowledge of the physical, psychological, social and economic effects of substance abuse, homelessness, medical and mental health issues.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Considerable knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations regarding client confidentiality.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to project a professional image.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate phones, computers, and other office equipment.
  • Ability to kneel, bend and perform light lifting.
  • Ability to write and speak clearly using the English language to convey information.
  • Ability to hear at normal speaking levels both in person and over the telephone.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to travel as required to work with staff.

Responsibilities

  • Crisis intervention to assist clients in overcoming substance abuse disorders and other problems.
  • Provides information and education to individuals and groups concerning substance abuse and mental health disorders (co-occurring disorders).
  • Refers clients to supportive services to supplement treatment and counseling.
  • Prepares and maintains records on assigned caseload and issues reports.
  • Assumes all other appropriate duties as deemed necessary by the supervisor.
