About The Position

Youth Diversion is a program that provides unemployed, out-of- school young people an opportunity to reclaim their education, gain the skills they need for employment, and to become leaders in their communities. Through this program, low-income young people learn construction skills to help build affordable housing with the support of wraparound case management services. The Youth Diversion Case Manager is responsible for providing assessment, support, case management and training for Youth Diversion participants

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in social work, psychology, or related field from an accredited college or university with 1-2 years related work experience.
  • Valid GA Drivers license and a good driving record
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check

Responsibilities

  • Ensure student recruitment for each of the cohorts are met by working closely with schools and agencies with potential interest in the program
  • Receive and review applications and interview applicants
  • Assess personal needs of Youth Diversion participants and connect them to resources to meet their needs
  • Assist in designing and implementing of program orientation and Mental Toughness
  • Co-lead Mental Toughness orientation for the program
  • Complete internal hiring paperwork to enroll youth into the program
  • Set up TABE assessments
  • Create and maintain relationships with partnering schools to keep YouthBuild staff updated on educational processes
  • Create and complete participant behavioral assessments and agreements
  • Track participant attendance, ensuring follow up on absent participants
  • Investigate ongoing attendance issues and create effective ways to improve attendance
  • Document and report progress of students to meet funding requirements
  • Provide ongoing support, assistance and motivation to YouthBuild students and staff
  • Conduct bi-weekly case management meeting with students to develop, plan and track progress towards goals regarding completion of GED and personal goals
  • Work with students to remain in school and retain their position with YouthBuild
  • Assist students with conflict mediation and problem-solving as needed
  • Create and maintain relationships with outside agencies that serve as advocates and resources for students
  • Maintain monthly contact with past participants and provide additional follow up as needed
  • Advocate resolving issues facing the students (i.e.: court, previous school records, mental health needs, physical health needs, housing, etc.)
  • Make home visits, as appropriate, to assess needs and support the students.
  • Identify cultural, political, and social events or activities that may take place after work hours, and organize youth participation in such events
  • Oversee or assist with tutoring/help sessions
  • Assist instructors with students who may exhibit behavioral problems in the classroom
  • Participate in bi-weekly supervision and case staffing with supervisor
  • Provide transportation (via YouthBuild van) for youth in the program
  • Supervise participants on the job site in the absence of a crew leader, as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
