About The Position

Stoel Rives LLP has an immediate opening for a Case Assistant in our Seattle office. Case Assistants provide support on a variety of billable projects or tasks. Individuals hired are required to perform any or all listed essential job functions depending upon the work requirements of the day. Case Assistants report to the Project Services Supervisor.

• Must be capable of learning (and may be required to have working knowledge of) on‑line research programs such as Westlaw and Lexis.
• Must be familiar with operation of office equipment, including personal computer, printer, photocopier, and telephone.
• Operate a telephone, personal computer, and all types of photocopy equipment and other necessary office equipment
• Read and comprehend handwritten and typed notes or instructions
• Type on a computer keyboard in a sitting or standing position for extended periods of time during a 7.5‑hour workday
• Learn and effectively use Firm style and software applications
• Accurately proofread documents
• Accurately record and deliver phone messages
• Carry files, binders, and pouches of files for short distances.
• May be required to possess valid driver’s license, have a good driving record, and drive personal vehicle to accomplish work assignments.
• Must be capable of delivering and obtaining documents from downtown offices and court buildings.
• May be required to travel out of town and/or out of state to accomplish work assignments.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• At least 1 year of experience in a law firm environment required.

Responsibilities

• Photocopy, organize, bind, number-stamp, and box documents for delivery
• Locate specific documents, prepare indices, and review documents for closings, storage, and destruction
• Organize information and aid paralegals and attorneys by producing accurate, timely, complete, and thorough work product
• Create, design, and maintain spreadsheets to track various types of information
• Create and update indices
• Create exhibits using graphics, including, but not limited to, timelines, floor plans and flow charts.
• Deliver and obtain documents within and outside of the office
• File documents in various courts
• Obtain signatures and notarize documents within and outside of office
• Document review within office, at client office or at opposing counsel’s office
• Assist with management of document-intensive cases
• Interact with government agencies to obtain information
• Conduct legal and non-legal research and summarize findings by memorandum or report
• Attend both in-town and out-of-town trials
• Other tasks as assigned
• Setting up and organizing mini offices out of town to support document production and carry out other support requirements for trial and interacting with witnesses, clients, and opposing counsel in support of trial activities.

• Responsible for entering time daily, adhering to timekeeping rules, and turning in a time sheet to Project Services Supervisor twice per month
• Prioritize work, handle sensitive information, and maintain requisite interaction with clients, attorneys, paralegals, and other staff
