About The Position

As a Cart Maintainer, you'll be responsible for the preparation, delivery, and upkeep of our steel and plastic waste bins and carts. Your vital field work will encompass curbside and communal collections, cart maintenance, and supporting municipal waste inspectors, all while adhering strictly to City and Provincial Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) and environmental safety standards. This role involves receiving and filling out notification orders for all work completed, selecting appropriate routes for travel to and from assigned work areas, delivering, exchanging, or removing carts from specified customer site locations and returning them to the inventory/maintenance yard, conducting safety checks and site hazard assessments when servicing or interacting with residents and other internal stakeholders, and assessing and maintaining carts for return to service or disposal, all while adhering to work procedures including safety and environmental regulations.

Requirements

  • Completion of Grade 12 or higher
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in waste management/collection services, including operation of associated collection vehicles and equipment
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience dealing directly with the public in a customer service role
  • Considerable knowledge of the equipment, procedures, routes, and associated policies and Bylaws related to the City’s waste and recycle collection programs
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with the public on matters related to service delivery
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships and provide a high level of customer service
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Vision, Google Workspace (Gmail, Calendar, Sheets, Docs, etc), and the ability to learn and adapt to evolving technology
  • Strong time management skills, including the ability to organize, plan, and prioritize time-sensitive work tasks

  • Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as wearing steel toed boots, is a requirement for this position
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence with Air Brake Endorsement (or provincial equivalent)
  • Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
