About The Position

In accordance with a detailed cleaning plan, the Carpet and Floor Care Specialist performs general and specific cleaning and maintenance tasks to provide a clean, safe, and pleasant physical environment. They perform other tasks as assigned in emergency or unusual situations with specific guidance from the supervisor. Examples of additional work to be performed include, but are not limited to: Perform snow and ice removal. Oversee clean up associated with water or fire damage and special event support. Clean up to 28,000-35,000 square feet of cleanable space per eight-hour work day, using standard tools, equipment, materials, and supplies of the trade and observance of all safety rules, regulations and precautions. Represent the department with the University community and its visitors, behaving in a professional manner and keeping informed of departmental and University rules, regulations, and guides pertaining to employment obligations, including complying with attendance and clock in and out on time. Work with other University Facilities staff as part of a team, being flexible with schedules to accommodate emergency situations such as staffing shortages and snow removal.

Requirements

  • HS or GED preferred
  • One year of custodial work experience is preferred
  • A valid and current driver’s license from Maryland, Virginia, or District of Columbia
  • Basic knowledge of English including the ability to read, write, and speak English with understanding in order to read and understand product label instructions and University policies and procedures
  • Must be able to relate custodial and maintenance problems clearly to supervisor and/or the Work Management Center
  • Ability to complete a training program in building cleaning
