About The Position

The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction (NCDAC), Support Services, Division of Engineering, Construction, and Maintenance (DECM) is seeking an energetic, skilled, and collaborative Regional Maintenance Carpenter (Carpenter II) to join our Coastal Region Maintenance Team. The ideal candidate will demonstrate journeyman-level carpentry experience and proficiency in the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of general building systems. This role requires the ability to work independently, effectively interpret blueprints, operate construction equipment, and perform a wide range of assigned tasks.

Requirements

  • High school or General Educational Development diploma and two years of experience in the construction or remodeling of wooden structures or in furniture repair or construction OR An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Based on the nature of work performed, may require appropriate licensure by the governing board or commission.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience with the tools, methods, practices, materials, and equipment used within the carpentry trade relating to the construction and/or maintenance of buildings.
  • Demonstrated experience with reading schematics and blueprints.
  • Demonstrated experience executing Critical Path Method (CPM) construction schedules for new construction, renovation, and/or major maintenance projects.
  • Demonstrated experience with reading/interpreting construction plans and documents.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA standards, State Construction Office guidelines, North Carolina Building Codes, AND/OR laws and ordinances governing institutional / industrial / commercial construction.

Responsibilities

  • Perform journeyman-level carpentry work in the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of building structures and systems.
  • Read, interpret, and apply information from blueprints, technical drawings, and project plans.
  • Operate and maintain construction tools and equipment safely and effectively.
  • Independently manage work assignments received from a supervisor and ensure timely completion.
  • Assist with additional maintenance and repair tasks as assigned to support regional operations.
