About The Position

This position is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing carpentry throughout the hospital and ancillary facilities. The role involves building, installing, renovating, repairing, demolishing, finishing, and painting structures, fixtures, furnishings, locks, and related building equipment. The carpenter will independently assess project needs, plan assignments, estimate time and materials, and use various tools to ensure high-quality results. Additionally, the role supports facility safety, reliability, and inspection readiness through preventive maintenance and addressing deficiencies to ensure Joint Commission compliance. The carpenter will manage assigned work orders from start to finish, including material ordering and schedule coordination. The position also plays an active role in construction and renovation projects, including installing walls, partitions, finish carpentry, cabinet work, doors, windows, painting, and flooring. Infection prevention and control requirements must be followed during all renovation and construction activities. The role also involves cross-training in other building trades such as light plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and grounds maintenance, and collaborating with other disciplines to ensure smooth hospital facility operations.

Requirements

  • No educational requirement.
  • Five (5) years of Carpentry/Mechanical experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair carpentry throughout the hospital and ancillary facilities.
  • Build, install, renovate, repair, demolish, finish, and paint structures, fixtures, furnishings, locks, and related building equipment.
  • Assess project needs, plan assignments, estimate time and materials, and use hand and power tools to deliver safe, high-quality results.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on assigned equipment to keep facilities safe, reliable, and inspection-ready.
  • Support Joint Commission compliance by correcting identified deficiencies and completing Plan for Improvement (PFI) items.
  • Manage assigned work orders from start to finish, including ordering materials and coordinating schedules.
  • Prioritize and complete assigned work orders efficiently, secure necessary materials, and coordinate work schedules to minimize disruption.
  • Plan and install new or modified walls and partitions.
  • Complete finish carpentry and cabinet work.
  • Install or alter doors and windows.
  • Paint and install carpet and base materials.
  • Follow infection prevention and control requirements throughout all renovation and construction activities.
  • Expand skills through cross-training in other building trades (light plumbing, electrical, HVAC, grounds maintenance).
  • Collaborate across disciplines to help keep hospital facilities operating smoothly.
