About The Position

The Carpenter position performs carpentry, repair, renovation and general maintenance through university housing facilities, supporting safe and functional resident halls and apartments. The position reports to the Islander Housing Facilities Director and works collaboratively with other departmental staff to ensure a safe and comfortable living environment for residents.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Three (3) years of experience in carpentry, maintenance, repair, or construction work.
  • Associate degree and one (1) year experience in carpentry, maintenance, repair, or construction work.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Strong technical knowledge of carpentry.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex maintenance issues.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures related to maintenance work.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to perform physical work

Nice To Haves

  • Three to five (3-5) years carpentry experience especially in University housing, apartments or schools.
  • Basic drywall, painting, light plumbing, and general maintenance knowledge.
  • Maintenance work in a university setting is preferred.
  • Trade school certification or relevant work experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs framing and carpentry repairs.
  • Repairs/Installs doors and frames.
  • Works on cabinets, countertops, trim, baseboard and shelving.
  • Performs flooring and hardware repair.
  • Installs and repairs drywall.
  • Repairs walls, partitions, ceilings and building components.
  • Completes renovation and remodel projects.
  • Operates carpentry and hand power tools.
  • Operates a TAMUCC vehicle and/or golf cart to navigate to and from worksites.
  • Attends departmental meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Completes routine and emergency work orders.
  • Follows safety procedures and building/fire codes.
  • Ensures compliance with all safety regulations and University policies and procedures.
  • Communicates effectively with housing leadership, residents, staff, and contractors to resolve maintenance issues and maintain positive relationships.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
