About The Position

This Carpenter position performs advanced carpentry duties with only general supervision, including driving to construction sites or UAMS Main Campus, reading architectural plans, developing work timelines, defining material requirements, assessing actual conditions for renovations, and minimizing material requirements. The role involves constructing walls, installing doorframes and doors, suspended and sheetrock ceilings, and hanging drywall. Precision work with specialty materials like metals and plastics, cabinetry installation, finishing, and manufacturing are also required. The position demands cross-training with an advanced level of proficiency in other maintenance and construction areas such as drywall finishing, painting, staining, and installation/repair of various floor coverings. This role supports independent identification and resolution of challenges, provides oversight for 3rd party contractor work, and is responsible for renovating and remodeling Medical, Educational, and Research facilities on the UAMS Campus. These duties are vital to the safety, comfort, and general wellbeing of patients, students, and employees. The Carpenter also assists with all facility-related problems and emergencies on the UAMS Campus.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 5-year carpentry experience
  • Valid driver's license with fewer than 12 points on their Motor Vehicle Record
  • Basic Computer/Tablet/Smartphone skills
  • Must be able to read and interpret constriction drawings

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Driving to and from construction sites or UAMS Main Campus
  • Independently reading and understanding architectural plans and specifications
  • Developing a work timeline and defining material requirements for projects of a range of sizes
  • Efficiently assess actual conditions of the space being renovated or remodeled
  • Develop templates, minimize material requirements and develop and implement plans to avoid known and unforeseen obstructions
  • Work independently or as the advanced carpenter on a team guiding others to construct walls, install doorframes and doors, install suspended ceilings and sheetrock ceilings, and hang drywall
  • Skills and precision work required to handle specialty materials such as metals and plastics
  • Perform a wide range of projects such as cabinetry installation, finishing and/or manufacturing
  • Cross trained with an advanced level of proficiency in other areas of maintenance and construction such as finishing drywall for final painting, painting, staining, and installation and repair of multiple types of floor coverings including but not limited to carpet, carpet tile, vinyl tile, sheet vinyl, and ceramic tile
  • Complete documentation essential for the Engineering & Operations work order system and preventative maintenance program
  • Support independent identification and resolution of challenges
  • Capable of providing oversite 3rd party contractor work
  • Responsible for renovating and remodeling the Medical, Educational, and Research facilities on the UAMS Campus
  • Assisting with all problems and/or emergencies relating to facility issues on the UAMS Campus
