About The Position

The Field Carpenter is responsible for constructing, installing, repairing, and finishing building components at residential and commercial job sites. This role performs a variety of carpentry tasks, including framing, trim work, installation of structural and finish materials, and other construction-related activities. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, detail-oriented, and experienced working in active construction environments. This role supports active residential construction projects across the west and southwest suburbs of Chicago.

Requirements

  • Strong carpentry skills and construction knowledge
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools, and measuring equipment safely and effectively
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in residential or commercial construction
  • Experience with framing, wall systems, roof systems, sheathing, and finish carpentry
  • Experience installing doors, windows, trim, or other building components
  • Familiarity with material handling equipment and jobsite safety practices
  • Work is performed primarily on active construction sites and outdoor job locations
  • Ability to work on ladders, scaffolding, roofs, and elevated work surfaces
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the workday
  • Ability to lift and move materials (up to 75 lbs; heavier materials require team lifting assistance)
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, dust, and construction environments
  • May require overtime or extended hours based on project schedules

Responsibilities

  • Construct, install, and repair wood-framed structures and building components according to plans and specifications
  • Perform framing, blocking, backing, sheathing, trim installation, and other carpentry-related tasks
  • Install structural and finish components, including doors, windows, trim, and related building materials as required
  • Measure, cut, shape, and assemble materials accurately and efficiently
  • Verify dimensions and ensure completed work meets project requirements and quality standards
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, and work orders
  • Review project requirements and identify material and installation needs
  • Coordinate work activities with supervisors, contractors, and team members
  • Load, unload, move, and organize materials, tools, and equipment
  • Maintain clean, organized, and professional job sites
  • Assist with material staging and jobsite preparation activities
  • Support project schedules by completing work efficiently and accurately
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and OSHA requirements
  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment
  • Report unsafe conditions, equipment concerns, or jobsite hazards promptly
  • Maintain proper use of PPE and safe work practices at all times
  • Work collaboratively with field supervisors, contractors, and crew members
  • Support project completion through effective communication and teamwork
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
