About The Position

The Burlington School District is seeking an energetic individual to fill out Carpenter position to support our Grounds Maintenance Team. Carpentry/Grounds Maintenance personnel are non-exempt/hourly positions that report to the Director of Property Services. This position is a member of the AFSCME union, under the Property Services Employees master agreement. The Carpentry/Grounds Maintenance personnel at the Burlington School District work to provide a variety of carpentry, maintenance and grounds services to meet the needs of the school district. The ideal candidate will be a team player with a positive attitude, reliable transportation and good time management skills.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated aptitude and ability to meet responsibilities outlined.
  • Ability to maintain a valid State Driver's license.
  • Ability to follow instructions from supervisors or senior maintenance workers.
  • Knowledge of general carpentry and repair.
  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing work priorities.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and schedules.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to perform work requiring moderate to heavy labor.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of carpentry, maintenance and grounds services.
  • Perform playground repair and inspections.
  • Perform painting.
  • Build, erect, install, and repair structures and fixtures.
  • Assist with grounds maintenance.
  • Install drywall.
  • Lay down floors.
  • Build cabinets.
  • Complete various types of construction from putting up shades to building a gate.
  • Install and inspect equipment, appliances, or machines.
  • Operate commercial ground equipment such as dump trucks, plows, tractors, front-end loaders, zero-turn mowers, snow blowers, chainsaws, and hedge trimmers.
  • Operate a variety of tools, machinery, and equipment, including hand and power tools used in ground maintenance such as shovels, rakes, axes, brooms, forks, leaf blowers, and other tools.
  • Troubleshoot issues to determine necessary repairs.
  • Perform general repairs that do not require a specialized technician, such as repairing drywall, painting, and repairing doors and other building fixtures.
  • Follow all safety rules, policies, and regulations.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Maintain accountability in maintaining assigned tools and equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
