The Carpenter role involves determining the sequence of construction operations and planning jobs by preparing material lists and creating working sketches for construction, scaffolding, prefabrication carpentry fixtures, and frames. This planning is guided by blueprints, sketches, trade practices, and verbal/written instructions, supplemented by actual layout when necessary. The position requires setting up woodworking machinery such as saws, jointers, wood shapers, and routers, including selecting blades, setting angles, and adjusting speeds and guides. Key responsibilities include performing finish carpentry work on permanent structures, office partitions, panels, hardwood floors, office doors, cabinets, and windows, using various hand and power tools. The Carpenter will install items like door checks and jams, metal and fiberglass ceiling panels, fiberglass battings, and cut and fit wooden flooring in trucks and trailers. The role also involves positioning component parts for prefabrication or on-site assembly, fastening them with nails, screws, and/or glue, and finishing by sanding. Additionally, the Carpenter is responsible for the fabrication and installation of permanent stenciled and/or engraved facility signs for identification, direction, caution, and operational status, noting that these duties may be shared with other bargaining unit employees. The position may also require operating electronic data entry, tablets, storage, processing, and/or retrieval equipment as a routine part of job assignments.
