The Carpenter is a skilled journeyman-level trades position within the Central Maintenance Services / Physical Plant Department responsible for performing advanced carpentry, construction, renovation, and building maintenance activities throughout AIDB facilities. This position performs a wide variety of rough and finish carpentry duties requiring extensive knowledge of commercial construction practices, building systems, materials, tools, and maintenance procedures. The Carpenter is responsible for planning, organizing, and completing construction and maintenance projects while ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established standards, specifications, blueprints, and architectural drawings. The Carpenter provides leadership and direction to assigned employees, helpers, and temporary workers while coordinating construction activities, monitoring project progress, and ensuring quality workmanship. This position requires the ability to independently troubleshoot building issues, determine appropriate solutions, manage assigned projects, and communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, contractors, and campus personnel. The Carpenter plays a critical role in maintaining AIDB’s educational, residential, administrative, and support facilities by ensuring buildings remain safe, functional, accessible, and professionally maintained. Through skilled craftsmanship and project leadership, this position directly supports AIDB’s mission of providing exceptional services and opportunities to individuals who are Deaf, Blind, DeafBlind, and multidisabled.
