About The Position

This is a contractual, position-specific recruitment for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Engineering and Construction. This recruitment will be used to fill current vacancies for the position and may be used to fill future vacancies in the same classification/function. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year. This is a Long-Term Contractual Vacancy, Full-time, 40 hrs/week, 12 Month Contract with possibility of renewal. The position is located at the Hillsboro Armory, Queen Anne. The main purpose of the job is to work as part of the land-based construction crew as a skilled trim carpenter and other carpentry skills on assigned projects statewide. Projects will include, but not be limited to, new construction (office buildings, garages, storage areas), road construction, site excavation, major renovation, historic restorations, and general maintenance. This position is necessary in keeping the agency facilities functional, structurally sound, ADA accessible, and to ensure a safe working environment. Historic structures are restored to preserve Maryland heritage and retrofit for agency use. The Department of Natural Resources (DNR), In-House Construction, is currently accepting applications for a full-time contractual carpenter trim employee to work statewide with DNR’s In-House Construction unit based out of Gillespie Armory, Queen Anne MD. Work consists of new construction, building maintenance and repair, major maintenance, and historic restoration on state-wide DNR facilities.

Requirements

  • Completion of the eighth grade.
  • Five years of experience in general carpentry.
  • Two years of which must have been in finish or trim carpentry work or in cabinetmaking.
  • Possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

Nice To Haves

  • Broad knowledge of all types of construction, including building construction, code compliance, inspection repairs, cost estimating, utility construction and repairs, and site construction and repairs.
