About The Position

Plan, lay-out and install forms, rebar, embeds and anchor bolts for installation of concrete structures in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes and industry standards. This role involves using hand and power tools to measure, cut, assemble, and install various components for concrete structures. The carpenter will also be responsible for pouring, vibrating, leveling, smoothing, finishing, and patching concrete surfaces. Safety is a paramount concern, requiring active participation in all safety processes, hazard identification, reporting, and adherence to safety rules and procedures, including lockout tag out. Effective communication, teamwork, and the ability to read and interpret blueprints are essential. The role also includes providing on-the-job training to helpers and laborers and ensuring quality of work meets project specifications.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience working as a carpenter or similar craft or a combination of working experience and training.
  • Strong working knowledge of the erection of all types of concrete structures.
  • Working knowledge of auto-level and transit for accurate lay-out and verification of finished grades.
  • Fabrication and erection of forms with thorough knowledge of steel framed forms (i.e. Symons).
  • Fabrication and placement of rebar including proper tying techniques.
  • Placing, finishing and sealing concrete.
  • Must have all necessary tools (see Industrial Carpenter tool list).
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, lay-out and install forms, rebar, embeds and anchor bolts for installation of concrete structures.
  • Use appropriate hand and power tools to properly measure, cut, assemble and install forms, rebar, embeds and anchor bolts.
  • Construct built-in-place or prefabricated wooden forms, according to specifications for molding concrete structures.
  • Erect built-in-place forms or assemble and install prefabricated forms.
  • Insert spreaders and tie-rods between opposite pieces to maintain specific dimensions.
  • Anchor and brace forms to fixed objects using nails, bolts, anchor rods, steel cables, planks and timber.
  • Build wooden structures such as scaffold supports and supports, and frame shelters according to specifications and project specifications.
  • Pour concrete into finished forms to specified textures.
  • Vibrate, level, smooth and shape surface of concrete.
  • Finish concrete surfaces to specifications.
  • Remove rough or defective spots from concrete surfaces using power grinder or chisel and hammer and patch holes with fresh concrete or epoxy compound.
  • Install all other items in accordance with the applicable plans and specifications.
  • Participate in all safety related processes and programs.
  • Engage with your work team to ensure we achieve zero injuries.
  • Watch for hazards and report any concerns to your supervisor or safety professional.
  • Use your stop work authority until the issue is resolved.
  • Report all accidents and near misses to supervisor; participate in investigation process as needed.
  • Participate in all pre-job work planning and safety discussions.
  • Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate and/or mitigate hazards.
  • Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices.
  • Understand, support, and follow lockout tag out procedures.
  • Attend site specific training and assure you follow all procedures as out lined in training.
  • Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work environment.
  • Use effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers and fractions rapidly and accurately.
  • Listen to co-workers suggestions, safety concerns, and recommendations.
  • Coordinate work with other crafts and co-workers on the job.
  • Provide on-the-job training and/or mentoring to helpers and laborers.
  • Produce quality work, meeting requirements of plans, specifications and industry standards.
  • Read and understand plans and specifications in blueprints, sketches, or plans to prepare project layout.
  • Visualize two dimensional drawings in three dimensions.
  • Develop complete understanding of contract plans and specifications for the work assigned.
  • Assure crew plans, lay-out, diagram, install and/or repair structures in accordance with those plans and specifications.
