About The Position

The Carpenter Foreman is responsible for ensuring safe work practices and identifying potential risks on the job site. This role involves checking and improving existing work methods, instructing journeymen on craft tasks and safety procedures, and coordinating work between different crafts to prevent conflicts. The Foreman must be able to read and interpret blueprints, understand job specifications, and ensure finished work meets quality standards. They are also responsible for understanding project scope, priorities, and schedules, completing work on time, and identifying and addressing potential problems promptly. Additionally, the Foreman must be familiar with project cost control procedures, stay within budget, and ensure accurate reporting of time sheets, backcharges, quantities, and work status.

Requirements

  • 6 years of industrial construction experience.
  • 2 years in Supervisory roles.
  • Ability to identify practices and conditions that are safe as well as those that are at risk.
  • Ability to provide appropriate, on-the-spot corrective action.
  • Ability to check the adequacy of existing job/task methods and procedures.
  • Ability to instruct journeymen in specific craft tasks including safety procedures and techniques.
  • Knowledge of other craft disciplines to effect work coordination between crafts and to prevent jurisdictional conflicts.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Ability to understand job specifications.
  • Ability to implement Bechtel job procedures and work rules.
  • Ability to inspect finished work for quality and completeness.
  • Ability to understand the work scope and integrate priorities of the project.
  • Ability to understand work priorities and schedules.
  • Ability to complete planned work on schedule.
  • Ability to identify potential problems in a timely manner.
  • Ability to take quick remedial action when work performed is not according to drawings and specifications, code requirements, or to quality of accepted construction standards.
  • Familiarity with project cost control procedures.
  • Commitment to stay within established cost goals and unit rate standards.
  • Ability to ensure accurate reports are submitted with regard to time sheets, backcharges, quantity, and work status.
