About The Position

Under the direction of the Building Maintenance and Grounds Coordinator, this role constructs, repairs, and maintains wooden and steel structures, such as residential homes, office buildings, equipment, furniture, partitions and other parts of Community Mental Health Authority buildings, using hand and power tools. Performs both rough and fine carpentry tasks, minor plumbing and electrical repairs. Responds to calls for emergency repairs at all CMHA-CEI locations, which may occur after regularly scheduled hours. Responsible for carrying out all activities of the program/sub-unit in such a manner that fulfills CMHA-CEI’s mission, policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Possession of a High School diploma or G.E.D.
  • Three years’ experience as a Carpenter required (experience may consist of three years’ apprenticeship and post-apprenticeship experience or three years of equivalent on-the-job training).
  • Possession or ability to obtain a Michigan Residential Builder's license is required.
  • Ability to communicate accurately and effectively both in writing and verbally.
  • Must be physically able to carry assorted construction material in a variety of sizes and weights.
  • Possession of a valid Michigan driver’s license and access to reliable means of transportation for job related use is required.
  • Must be able to obtain, upon request of the employer, a C3 endorsement for driving a van.
  • Employee will drive a CMHA-CEI vehicle home daily and will be required to respond to emergencies in Clinton, Eaton, and Ingham counties, and must therefore reside in the Tri-County area.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical exam.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment 5-panel drug screen.
