About The Position

Reviews blueprints, drawings, diagrams and specifications to fabricate and repair wood components; fabricates doors, ladders, cabinets, crates, GRP handrails; installs plywood deck protection and protective coverings; mills wooden blocks for ships in dry-dock; modify, and installs false deck panels. Performs other related tasks as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position.

Requirements

High school or equivalent education certificate, AA degree from junior college or apprenticeship program for journeyman preferred from accredited organization.
Minimum of two years experience required, three to five years preferred
Basic rough and finish carpentry skills including framing and cabinet making required.
Must have knowledge to safely operate all shop machinery and hand and power tools.
Must be able to operate high reaching equipment.
Must be able to work at heights, in confined spaces, on board ships, and on any shift.
Must be able to hear warning signals and read and comprehend safety instructions, regulations and warnings.

Responsibilities

Mill wood blocking from blueprints and measurement tables for dry-dock to accommodate ships.
Measure, cut, and fit plywood on site for environmental and deck protection.
Measure, cut, and fit wood blanking protection.
Fabricate DC plugs for hull penetration protection.
Fabricate repairs and install doors, cabinets, wood handrails, ladders shipping crates, and GRP handrails.
Fabricate, modify and install false deck panels. (Nomex)
Fabricate wood blocking for boat davits.
Perform finish work as needed, such as adding formic to metal tables, laying down linoleum.
Perform general shipyard building construction and repair.
Other job tasks as assigned relevant to the trade.
