About The Position

This internship involves assisting with activities related to safety and loss control within a construction project or office environment. The intern will support the implementation of safety programs, identify and report safety violations, coordinate safety-related meetings and training, and assist with administrative tasks such as reviewing subcontractor safety programs and managing safety records. The role requires a proactive individual with strong communication and organizational skills, eager to learn about construction safety.

Requirements

  • Enrolled and actively pursuing a college or university accredited degree program in Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, or related field of study.
  • Minimum of 1 year of completed education, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Basic knowledge of safety and environmental principles and techniques.
  • Desire to work in construction management and learn about the construction industry.
  • Flexible to work standard business hours and overtime as determined by assignment.
  • Demonstrate interpersonal skills including student leadership, volunteerism, or other community involvement.
  • Professional and clear verbal and written communication skills.
  • Assume personal and professional accountability for own actions and activities.
  • Proactive, curious, and eager to learn and participate.
  • Able to work independently with direction and supervision, and in a team environment.
  • High attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Able to take direction, learn and process information quickly, and follow tasks through to completion.
  • Proficient computer and data entry skills, Microsoft Office suite of applications, and collaboration tools.
  • Limited travel may be required.
  • Access to reliable transportation required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in implementing Building L.I.F.E. (Living Injury Free Everyday) and project safety program.
  • Identify and report safety violations or unsafe practices, with emphasis on situations of imminent danger.
  • Coordinate safety duties for safety committees, preplanning meetings, and tool box meetings.
  • Coordinate training at safety meetings, tool box meetings, and orientations.
  • Review subcontractor safety programs for completeness and compliance.
  • Promote safe work practices and conditions in accordance with regulations and contractual requirements.
  • Assist with the administration of the drug screening program.
  • Assist with preconstruction meetings and conducting research.
  • Document meetings under the direction of a supervisor.
  • Conduct jobsite and work area inspections and assist with developing inspection summaries.
  • Maintain safety records, including pre-task plans, Job Hazard Analyses, training records, OSHA 300 log, MSDS, chemical inventory sheets, and incident investigations.
  • Conduct effective worker orientation programs for new employees and administer and record participation.
  • Perform other assigned activities, duties, and responsibilities.
