Union Tank Car Company is seeking applicants to become a member of our production team at our full-service rail tank car repair shop in Ville Platte, Louisiana. Union Tank Car Company's regulatory, engineering, and commercial expertise make UTLX the preferred source of railcars and services for many of its customers. Requirements

Must have a high school diploma, GED, or pass a Combined Basic Skills Test
Must pass the applicable welding test as prescribed by the company
Demonstrate job related computational knowledge; for example, be able to read a ruler
Must be able to work effectively and efficiently both as a member of a team and independently
Able to follow written and/or verbal instructions with minimal supervision
Ability to read, interpret, and follow documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and assembly instructions
Safety and quality focused
Willingness to wear required PPE at all times and always work safely.
Be available to work any shift, and be dependable and reliable to show up for scheduled work shifts including overtime, as allowed per the union contract

Responsibilities

Responsible for the entire sequence of cutting and welding operations for a wide variety of repair and fabrication work.
Aligns and welds components of metal tools, wires, fixtures and other metal products.
May utilize different types of welding systems for different tasks.
Maintains a safe work area and may train apprentices in the trade.
Welds components related to tank cars including tanks, bolsters, underframes, side sills, etc.
Performs welded repairs by utilizing air arc cutting torch and stick or wire welding equipment.
Uses hand tools and equipment to chip and grind weld, slag or spatter.
Repairs, straightens, removes, reworks car parts, brakes, underframes, center plates, gears, couplers, valves, etc. using various hand and power tools.
Performs welding and mechanical repairs to tank and hopper cars when required.
Maintains work area in a neat and orderly manner and reports potential hazards.
