About The Position

The Cargo Handler is responsible for receiving, storing, and distributing freight within established guidelines. This role involves reading shipping documents, moving and sorting freight, storing dangerous goods, filling orders, and breaking down containers. The position also requires recording inventory, weighing and counting items, performing cargo build-up and breakdowns, and maintaining a clean and hazard-free work area. Safety and security procedures are paramount, including adhering to all Company's Safety Policies and following all Security procedures.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must pass Drug testing.
  • Must have High School diploma or GED.
  • Must have a current driver license with no violations over the past 5 years.
  • Must be able to speak, read and write in English proficiently.
  • Must be able to lift up to 70 lbs.
  • Must be available and flexible to work variable shifts including weekends and holidays.
  • Must be able to pass all pre-employment testing including drug testing.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain all required Airport and Custom badges/seals.

Nice To Haves

  • Forklift certificate preferred, but not necessary.
  • Previous customer service experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Reads Airway bills, bills of landing, or freight manifest to determine the items to be moved, gathered or distributed.
  • Conveys freight from receiving areas to storage or to other designated areas with forklift or transporter.
  • Sorts and places materials or items on racks, shelves or in bins according to predetermined sequence such as consignee or destination.
  • Sorts and stores all dangerous goods in proper area.
  • Fill requisitions, work orders or requests for materials, tools or other stock items and distribute items to other locations.
  • Open bales, crates, and other containers for breakdown.
  • Records count of items received or distributed.
  • Weighs and counts items for distribution within the warehouse to ensure conformance to company standards and air waybill.
  • Performs cargo build-up and/or breakdowns, freight to and/or from skid, pallets or ULDs.
  • Ensures that work areas are clean and hazard free of loose nets, straps, etc.
  • Practices all Company's Safety Policy inclusive of, but not limited to wearing PPE, equipment operation, safe lifting procedures or obeying speed limits when driving company vehicles and equipment.
  • Follows all Security procedures as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
