About The Position

The Department of Economic Security (DES) is seeking experienced and highly motivated individuals to join their team as Caregivers within the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD). This role involves coaching, teaching, mentoring, and providing direct support to members with developmental disabilities (e.g., autism, cerebral palsy, intellectual disability, or epilepsy) ranging from mild to profound. Services are primarily designed to meet the personal needs of members in Intermediate Care Facilities (ICF) and group home settings. DDD aims to provide flexible, high-quality, and member-driven services and supports, offering individuals opportunities for independent decision-making and community engagement. Applicants cannot be licensed or certified by the DDD Office of Licensing Certification and Regulation, have a principal interest in a DDD Qualified Vendor Agreement, or be employed/subcontracted by a DDD Qualified Vendor.

Requirements

  • Applicant must be 18 years of age to apply.
  • The ability to read and write in English.
  • The ability to work weekends, holidays, overtime, and change work locations, when necessary.
  • Valid Level One fingerprint clearance card issued pursuant to Arizona Revised Statute 41-1968.
  • Subject to a search of both the Department of Child Safety Central Registry and the Adult Protective Services Registry.
  • Successfully pass background and reference check.
  • Successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the personal care (e.g., bathing, toileting, dressing, personal hygiene), health, safety, and general well-being of members, encouraging independence.
  • Provides recreational, medical, and leisure opportunities at home and in the community.
  • Drives a transport vehicle, operates a lift if needed, and assists members with safety requirements including seat belts and shoulder belts, ensuring wheelchair safety in the vehicle using tie-downs.
  • Implements Person Centered Service Plan (PCSP) programs and strategies, records data, and writes progress and communication notes.
  • Encourages development and maintenance of member skills.
  • Implements therapeutic recommendations, including positioning, sensory activities, and exercises.
  • Completes incident reports and notifies the member's guardian if necessary.
  • Responds to members' emergency situations by calling for assistance and providing emergency intervention until medical help arrives.
  • Assists in coordinating the emergency response plan and follows necessary steps to ensure member safety.
  • Orders, logs, dispenses, administers, and stores medications according to doctor's orders after completing the appropriate medication technician or administration course.
  • When assigned, performs shift lead responsibilities, which may include organizing and implementing shift tasks, staff assignments, and member schedules.
  • Occasionally completes assigned light housekeeping duties (e.g., sweeping, mopping, dusting, bed-making, emptying trash, washing dishes, clothes washing, disinfecting therapy equipment and wheelchairs).
