About The Position

A mature couple on the Upper East Side of NYC is seeking a companion for an 80-year-old male. This is a temporary position to cover a period of time off. The specific dates needed are June 3rd, 6th, 8th, 9th, 10th, and 13th, from 8am to 5pm. The candidate must understand that the principal has dementia and must have prior companion experience.

Requirements

• Must have elderly care experience listed on resume
• Must have companion experience
• Experience with dementia care is necessary
• Clear spoken English is required due to the principal being hard of hearing
• Must be strong, as the principal is a very large, tall man
• Must have confidence, attention to detail, and empathy
• Must be comfortable navigating difficult situations while remaining pleasant and empathetic

Responsibilities

• Being kind, loving, gracious, a good conversationalist, and efficient
• Assisting with personal care, including taking the principal to the bathroom, washing him up, and getting him dressed
• Being attentive, such as getting water, helping him around, and taking him outside on nice days
• Performing light errands as needed
• Making the bed
