About The Position

Franklin Park Alamo Heights is hiring a caregiver to provide person-centered care in its retirement community in San Antonio. The community offers Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Memory Care, with small residential neighborhoods of 15 residents. Care is individualized and uses a holistic approach. Caregivers in the memory care setting receive specialized training in dementia and effective support for residents with dementia. The schedule is 2 PM–10 PM on a rotating 4-on/2-off schedule, with days off known in advance.

Requirements

Training and/or experience as a caregiver, or experience working as a Med Tech.
Dependability.
Patience and the ability to relate to people with memory challenges.
Ability to work as part of a team.
Ability to communicate effectively with senior adults using professionally acceptable language, tone, and terms.
Ability to stand, walk, sit, push, climb and/or balance, stoop, bend, or kneel during an eight-hour shift.
Ability to use hands and fingers for fine motor movements, including buttoning and zipping clothing.
Ability to lift and/or transfer residents weighing up to 250 pounds with assistance.
Close, distance, and peripheral vision.
Ability to work with potential exposure to infectious diseases, blood, feces, urine, chemicals, and unpleasant odors.

Responsibilities

Assist residents with activities of daily living, including dining, dressing, grooming, bathing, toileting, transfers, and ambulation.
Encourage residents to maintain independence and participate to the extent of their abilities, while offering choice and control.
Promote resident engagement in hobbies, interests, community programs, and events.
Provide person-centered, individualized services using a holistic approach.
For caregivers in the memory care setting, support residents with dementia using specialized training.
Caregivers working the night shift also provide laundry services and clean equipment.
