About The Position

The PRN Caregiver provides compassionate, resident-centered care to individuals in an assisted living and/or memory care community. This position works on an as-needed basis to cover scheduled shifts, vacations, leaves of absence, and call-ins while promoting residents' dignity, independence, safety, and quality of life.

Requirements

  • Must possess a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in caregiving or healthcare settings.
  • Exceptional communication skills in English, enabling effective interaction with residents and staff through both verbal and written means.
  • Utilize electronic devices and software provided.
  • Understanding of basic healthcare principles/practices, safety & infection control measures.
  • Awareness of common health conditions affecting older adults.
  • Ability to provide physical assistance and support to residents with mobility challenges.
  • Proficiency in maintaining accurate records and documenting observations.
  • Capability to remain calm and compassionate in challenging situations, with a pleasant demeanor.
  • Problem-solving abilities to promptly address concerns or complaints, with the ability to quickly pivot from one task to the next.
  • Maintain ongoing education and training, attending all departmental & in-staff services as required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide personalized assistance and support tailored to the unique needs of residents’ memory impairments, implementing memory care techniques to stimulate cognitive function.
  • Report all incidents/accidents/potential liabilities to Health Services Director and participate in required post incident shift huddles when requested.
  • Monitors and reports any changes to residents’ health.
  • Assist with grooming before meals, serve meals while aiding with eating and drinking, and verify resident’s identification prior to serving.
  • Monitor the dining room, as necessary.
  • Maintain resident documentation, charting required information, including any resident changes.
  • Add appropriate residents to Alert Charting.
  • Create a safe and structured environment to minimize confusion and agitation, while promoting independence and autonomy.
  • Engage residents in social activities and provide companionship; assist Life Enrichment Director as needed.
  • Assists with personal hygiene, mobility, toileting, meals, housekeeping, and medication as required per care plan.
  • Complete all assigned duties, as directed by management or community leadership, adapting to changes in resident needs, staffing and working conditions, as necessary.
  • Be aware of and report all hazardous conditions and equipment to the Health Services Director or Administrator.
  • Communicate complaints, suggestions, and concerns, as necessary.
  • When applicable, become familiar, practice, support and engage in the Montessori Approach.
  • Keep supply room and work areas clean.
