About The Position

A Caregiver is a member of the home care team who works under the supervision of a registered nurse and performs various personal care services as necessary to meet the client's needs. The Caregiver will be assigned in a manner that promotes quality, continuity, and safety of a client. The Caregiver must demonstrate and execute specific competencies to ensure effective, profitable, and client-centered agency operations. This role involves providing direct client care in their living environment, which may include hospitals or homes, and requires adherence to safety policies and Universal Precautions. The Caregiver will not perform tasks that constitute the practice of nursing, such as administering medications or taking physician's orders.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED
Current CPR Certification.
Current physical or Tuberculosis test (TB/TST/PPD tests, if applicable)
Valid licensed driver with reliable transportation
Valid state required proof of auto insurance
Minimum of one year of documented experience
Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively
Self-directing with the ability to work with little direct supervision
Empathy for the needs of the client
Treat clients, families, staff, and the public with courtesy and respect; presents a positive public image.
Works as a team member.
Ensures confidentiality and security of the client's medical information.

Responsibilities

Provide client services as directed by the Director of Nursing or Registered Nurse Supervisor.
Provide personal care to the client as applicable, including but not limited to: Bathing and personal hygiene; Grooming, including oral care; Assist the client with dressing and undressing; Assist the client with toileting activities.
Perform light housekeeping; Change bed linens and make up the client's bed; Maintain an orderly client environment.
Perform meal preparation and clean up; Assist in feeding the client, if necessary; Feed clients who are unable to feed themselves.
Assist client in the self-administration of medication (medication reminders).
Support good skin care to prevent skin breakdown (i.e., turn and reposition client; actively encourage movement).
Assist client with active and passive range of motions as defined by the plan of care.
Provide client with help walking and transferring.
Take and record vital signs (e.g., temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure).
Measure and record height and weight.
Measure and document intake and output, as required.
Assist in providing a safe environment for the client and promote quality client care through adherence to established policies, procedures, and standards.
Assist client in walking and transportation to doctor appointments, outdoor activities, shopping.
Follow principles of infection control and Universal Precautions.
Respond rapidly and appropriately in an emergency situation.
Use equipment properly and in a safe manner.
Ensure client's rights are adhered to, including but not limited to: the right to privacy and dignity while care is being provided; the right to accept or refuse care; the right to confidentiality of the client's information.
