About The Position

The Assisted Living Caregiver is responsible for providing compassionate, respectful, and individualized care to residents while promoting their dignity, independence, safety, and overall well-being. The Caregiver works as part of the Highlands Jefferson team to create a welcoming, home-like environment where residents feel valued, supported, and cared for. Caregivers are expected to build meaningful relationships with residents, communicate effectively with families and team members, and provide care according to each resident’s individualized service plan and the policies and procedures of Highlands Jefferson.

Requirements

  • Assist residents with mobility and transfers.
  • Lift and move supplies and equipment as required.
  • Provide physical assistance to residents when necessary and within the employee’s training and scope of responsibilities.
  • Respond quickly to resident needs and emergency situations.
  • Perform repetitive tasks throughout the work shift.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience working with seniors is preferred.
  • Previous Assisted Living, Memory Care, home care, or healthcare experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate, respectful, and person-centered care to residents.
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing and showering, dressing and grooming, toileting and incontinence care, oral hygiene, mobility and transfers, and eating and drinking.
  • Assist residents with maintaining their independence and encourage residents to do as much for themselves as safely possible.
  • Answer resident call pendants and respond promptly to resident requests.
  • Assist with rounds and routinely check on residents to ensure their safety and comfort.
  • Follow each resident’s individualized care plan and report changes in condition to the appropriate supervisor or Med Tech.
  • Observe and report changes in residents’ physical, emotional, behavioral, or cognitive condition.
  • Assist with meals, including dining room assistance, room service, feeding assistance, and encouraging proper nutrition and hydration.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for residents.
  • Assist with light housekeeping duties related to resident care and common areas as assigned.
  • Assist residents with activities, socialization, and community events.
  • Encourage positive relationships and meaningful engagement among residents.
  • Treat every resident with dignity, patience, kindness, and respect.
  • Protect resident privacy and maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Follow all infection control, safety, emergency, and workplace procedures.
  • Properly document care provided and communicate important resident information during shift changes.
  • Work cooperatively with Caregivers, Med Techs, nurses, leadership, dining staff, housekeeping, families, and other members of the care team.
  • Attend required staff meetings, training sessions, and continuing education.
  • Maintain professional communication with residents, families, visitors, and coworkers.
  • Follow all Highlands Jefferson policies and procedures.
  • Report accidents, injuries, safety concerns, resident incidents, or unusual occurrences immediately to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Assist with maintaining a positive, welcoming, and home-like atmosphere throughout the community.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
  • Remain attentive and available to residents throughout the shift.
  • Never leave a resident unattended when assistance is required.
  • Use proper techniques when assisting with transfers and mobility.
  • Report changes in resident condition promptly.
  • Ensure residents have access to necessary personal items, call pendants, water, and other essentials.
  • Follow fall prevention and other individualized safety precautions.
  • Respond promptly to call pendants and requests for assistance.
  • Never ignore a resident’s needs or concerns.
