About The Position

UCP Oregon is hiring a full-time caregiver, referred to as a Personal Assistant, to support an older woman with developmental disabilities who lives in her own apartment in outer Southeast Portland. The role focuses on helping her build confidence traveling in the community and discover and participate in new interests, while supporting her preferences for both home and community activities. Her interests include music, TV and movies, online shopping, Starbucks, The Wizard of Oz, and flamingos. The Personal Assistant provides full assistance with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, eating, and use of adaptive equipment. The role also includes personal care and hygiene, medication administration, meal preparation, apartment tidying, companionship, emotional support, and encouragement to participate in interests and outings. Several nights each week, the customer may have difficulty sleeping, so the caregiver may need to check on her throughout the night and facilitate calming activities. The schedule is one shift per week, totaling 38 hours, from 8 a.m. Thursday through 10 p.m. Friday. The caregiver also works their regular hours on agency holidays. Drivers are strongly preferred, but use of a personal vehicle is not required. The customer is transported in a UCP accessible van for medical appointments and outings and also uses TriMet Lift. Training in safe use of the UCP van is provided.
