About The Position

UCP Oregon is seeking a full-time caregiver "Personal Assistant" to support a charming, older woman with developmental disabilities who lives in her own apartment in outer SE Portland. The client is eager to work with a personal assistant who can help her build confidence traveling out in the community and help her discover and participate in new interests. She values both time spent at home as well as time out in the community, but she needs lots of encouragement to venture out. She also enjoys listening to music, watching TV and movies, online shopping, Starbucks, The Wizard of Oz, and flamingos.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Pass pre-hiring screenings, including a reference check, a physical with a lifting test of 50lbs, and a criminal history background check.
  • Drivers strongly preferred—if choosing to drive for UCP, you must be at least 18 years old, have a current driver’s license, at least two years of driving experience, and a clean driving record.
  • To meet the client's personal privacy needs, female applicants will be given preference.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the mental health or developmental disability field preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with personal care and hygiene tasks.
  • Administering medications.
  • Cooking meals.
  • Tidying up her apartment.
  • Full assistance with activities of daily living such as showering/bathing, dressing, eating, and using adaptive equipment.
  • Keeping her engaged in her interests.
  • Provide companionship and emotional support.
  • Support processing and regulating her emotions.
  • Check on her throughout the night during shifts to facilitate calming activities, as she often has difficulty sleeping through the night.
