About The Position

Under the leadership of the Director, Blackshear Villa, the Care Specialist is an active member of the medical office staff that collects data, provides comfort measures and basic care to patients. The Care Specialist works under close supervision and according to specific instructions performing a variety of basic patient care activities and related services necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of patients. The Care Specialist is responsible for providing care that is appropriate for the patient’s developmental age and is culturally sensitive.

Requirements

  • Requires a high school diploma or a GED state certification with additional vocational training as a Care Specialist
  • Requires up to six months of work-related experience or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Requires and maintains certification in BLS and CPR. (If BLS verification is not current upon hire, it must be obtained within three (3) months of hire.)
  • Requires and maintains a current and valid driver’s license and proof of insurance. A Motor Vehicle Report is required upon hire and reviewed annually.
  • Requires the passing of the Proxy Caregivers training and testing within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Functions as part of an interdisciplinary team with positive interpersonal communication skills when communicating with residents, families, and the staff.
  • Assists resident with personal hygiene care and other routine services for residents requiring assistance such as bathing, dressing, shaving, offering and bedside commode, and giving back rubs.
  • Takes and reports patient vital signs and initial medical history or other related information. Observes nurses or LPN’s with resident examinations.
  • Answer residents’ calls and ascertains residents’ needs, acts upon routine request and relays information to the proper person.
  • Performs a number of routine patient care procedures that require basic training.
  • Assist with the ambulation of residents.
  • Prepare meals balanced meals
  • Assists residents with the basic hygiene, hair, and oral care as required.
  • Compiles with CRHS and Physician Services safety, infection control and improvement initiatives to ensure the delivery of quality care and services.
  • Attends scheduled in-service programs as requested.
  • Provides basic clerical support as requested.
  • Presents professional image to CRHS nursing, clinical and medical staff members, patient’s families, and visitors.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.
