About The Position

Our Job Corps programs provide life-changing services that help young people succeed in school, obtain good jobs, excel in their chosen fields, and serve as contributing members of their communities. We accomplish this through an intense commitment to safety, quality service, excellence, and partnerships. The Career Transition Specialist (CTS) assesses graduates' placement readiness and provides appropriate referrals and support services in accordance with DOL, Center, and Equus requirements. This role ensures timely placement and retention of graduates in quality jobs, military, or further education, with a goal of 50% placement prior to separation. The CTS develops and maintains relationships with employers, One-Stops, and State Employment Agencies to promote job opportunities. They also conduct monthly follow-ups on graduates and former enrollees to provide ongoing placement services, assist graduates with resume preparation, interview skills, and placement search strategies, and identify and make referrals to transitional support services necessary for successful placement and retention. Additionally, the CTS conducts weekly training workshops on career preparation topics and instructs Career Prep students, documents all placement services provided to graduates in case notes, and verifies placements with employers. They establish relationships with community colleges and other entities to ensure successful placements with good career pathway opportunities, provide individualized services to Job Corps graduates and former enrollees during the prescribed service period, and develop and implement innovative strategies to increase graduate placement rates and job retention. Collaboration with other departments ensures a seamless transition from training to employment for graduates. The CTS maintains up-to-date knowledge of labor market trends and in-demand occupations to guide graduates effectively, organizes and participates in job fairs, both on-site and in the community, to connect graduates with potential employers, and monitors and reports on placement outcomes, providing regular updates to management on progress towards goals. Finally, the CTS assists in the development and implementation of alumni engagement programs to foster long-term success of graduates and provides guidance on financial literacy and budgeting to help graduates manage their finances post-placement. Collaboration with local workforce development boards aligns placement efforts with regional economic priorities. Other duties as assigned.
