About The Position

The Career & Student Engagement Specialist supports the Carson Center’s mission of advancing student career readiness and professional success by providing advising, coaching, education and program coordination for undergraduate business students. This position serves as a primary resource for students as they navigate career development programs, tools, and opportunities, helping them build career action plans, engage in experiential learning and professional development activities, and make strategic progress toward their career goals. The Career Development Specialist assists in developing and delivering workshops, events and programming aligned with the Carson College of Business strategic priorities, while fostering strong partnerships with employers, faculty, staff and campus stakeholders. This position serves as a primary specialist for the Pullman campus career development programming, communication, technology platforms and assessment. Working collaboratively with Carson Center staff, ensures the effective delivery of high-impact career initiative, provides responsive support to students and partners, and maintains accurate and user-friendly career development resources and communications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of professional work experience in student services or related education/experience.
  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Past work experience analyzing, evaluating, using professional judgment and/or applying a comprehensive depth of knowledge of student issues.
  • Professional work experience in advising or mentoring college students.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks effectively, with attention to detail, being organized, and multi-tasking to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong technical experience, including past experience working in Suitable, myWSU, and Handshake.
  • Work experience that demonstrates strong public speaking skills, and the development and delivery of engaging and informative workshops or trainings.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise professional judgment and leadership, including the ability to work independently.
  • Previous experience working in a higher education institution with diverse students, faculty/staff, and employers.
  • Familiarity with Washington State University academic rules and regulations.
